The Tide Mills Project

An immersive, community-led arts and heritage project that brought the lost village of Tide Mills back to life

LYT Productions successfully secured funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council of England, South Downs National Park Authority, Sussex Community Foundation and the Government “Welcome Back Fund” and delivered an exciting and ambitious community project exploring the history of Tide Mills village, situated almost right on the beach between Newhaven and Seaford.

Working over a period of almost 2 years and contending with the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions for much of that time, the project worked with historians and former residents of Tide Mills, as well as local artists, schools, community groups and many more, exploring the area’s rich and varied history. The project culminated in a week long Heritage Celebration event which saw over 20000 people visit the site to imagine how life in the village might have been, accompanied by huge artistic and audio-visual installations, live actors, interactive workshops and guided tours.

The development of the project, including interviews with former residents of the village and the final Heritage Celebration Week have been brilliantly and beautifully captured in an hour-long documentary.
